It's from a german (nazi propaganda) pseudo science Show. Katanas don't winding, they rather brake!!! Google "MG vs. Katana" respectively ".. vs. Samurai sword" if you want see the real deal!
This is a valid test. Europe had metal processing for a thousand years longer than japan. So concerning metalworking the katana is overvalued.
Obviously a stamped katana... handmade ones would not do that at all. i bet the other blade is great too, but that demonstration is like hiting a metal bat with a wooden bat because they couldnt get another metal bat.
Lame, the sword is supported on both ends AND on a table supporting it from underneath. The katana looks like it was made with mild steel, hell if I hit that same sword with a cheap home depot machete, it wouldn't bend.
I've seen the original video of this before. The guy who made the video made the katana himself without the normal procedures that most katana swordsmiths would use, furthermore he reinforced the strength of the other sword by putting struts underneath it like a bridge. So I wouldn't consider this remotely as a viable test.
