If you notice, after it sparks, the lines going down are "plasma" which is created JUST before the lightning strikes, the first one to touch an object like a lightning rod, or tree or ground anything really, thats the one it will travel down

Now you know why lightning makes that rippling sound when it goes off. Whompa Whompa Whompa WHOMPA WHOMPA KABOOM! Well, I'm sure there's better words to use but you know what I mean. Awesome.

This is really educational. I never realized this happened right before a lightning strike. And the first one to touch the ground is the path the actual bolt will take. Very awesome.    reply
